Overview

In the span of six months, FiveSixTwo designed and developed software to empower Traffic Safety Specialists to do monitor jobsites and ensure the safety of Traffic Controllers Nationwide. Our Starting Point

In the simplest terms, Jobsite Inspector is an iOS iPad application that allows a Traffic Safety Inspector to navigate to a job site, choose an appropriate job site, and then perform an inspection. These inspections include taking a photo, filling out a questionnaire, and evaluating the quality of work on a traffic controller job site.

FiveSixTwo heard directly from our customers that an iPad application that they used daily was suffering from irrecoverable crashes. These issues were compounded by the fact that the app had some terrible UX issues. Users couldn't see the data they needed to do their jobs and had to rely on outside applications in order to choose the correct job site.

Our users were our north star. We would always refer back to the insights we gathered in our user testing sessions and interviews.

This is Amazing

Part of our process was to meet with a handful of users across different regions and offices to get qualitative data on how our users actually use the product. After this step, we collate those testing and user interview sessions into actionable design decisions and share them with the greater cross-functional team.

As Design Lead, I oversaw the UI/UX team’s efforts, working hands-on during the critical phases leading up to the product launch. This included pair designing sessions, gathering insights across user interviews, and driving feedback into productive design decisions. Nothing makes me happier than to hear great feedback from our users, so when our users say the product we made was 'amazing' it really shows in the finished product. JC, one of our senior designers, did a ton of really great work in breaking down user needs and helping those insights get turned into requirements.
